Feeling down most of the time

Feeling down from time to time is a normal part of life for most people, but when emotions such as hopelessness, worthlessness, helplessness and despair is prolonged, it may mean that one may have depression. 

Depression is a condition that makes it difficult for sufferer to function and enjoy life like the person once did before. However, no matter how hopeless one feels, the person can get better because depression is curable with medication or alterative methodologies.

Some symptoms of depression are feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, loss of interest in daily activities, appetite change or drastic weight changes, sleep changes, anger or irritability and loss of energy. The longer some of these symptoms last, the more likely it is that the individual is depressed, thus seeking help immediately is recommended.

Although most people who are depressed do not kill themselves, untreated depression can increase the risk of possible suicide. It is not uncommon for depressed individuals to have thoughts about suicide though the person may not intend to act on these thoughts. Any concerns about suicide risk should always be taken seriously and evaluated by a qualified professional immediately.
