Tutoring and more tutoring

Singapore places a great emphasis on education that encourages students to be competitive. In turn, parents and students work very hard and turn to additional tutoring as a mean to be ahead of the game. This fuels the demand for tutoring in Singapore.

Some students like to stay ahead of the class and therefore they attend tuitions to have that edge to be top of the class. There are students who are being pushed into extra tutorials by their overly eager parents, even if there may be no need.

Hence, while the main motive and intention behind tutoring are to improve capabilities that students currently lack. In some cases, children may be forced into additional tutoring to appease their parent's desires. This can affect a child's motivation and interest in their studies and may lead to additional stress. Students who are unable to cope with the stress may be exposed to problems of depression, low self-esteem, and even suicidal thoughts.

As such, parents should consider if additional tuition will truly benefit their child before signing their child up for such classes.
